The EYPW at the MEP Water Group Online Event on “Valuing Water”

On March 26, the president of the European youth parliament for water (EYPW), Hasmik Barseghyan was one of the key speakers at the conference on the “value of water” held by the  Water Group of the European Parliament (MEP Water Group).

The MEP Water Group is the focal point for water issues in the European Parliament. This online event, held on the 26th of April 2021, was organized by the MEP Water Group, in collaboration with UNESCO and was dedicated to the United Nations’ world water development report 2021.

Pernille Weiss, Chairman of the MEP Water Group opened the session that featured a presentation of the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR) 2021, Valuing Water by Richard Connor, WWDR Editor in Chief, UNESCO WWAP.

The panel discussion followed with Marianne Kjellen (Global Policy Advisor, UNDP-SIWI), Hasmik Barseghyan (president, EYPW), and Jacob Bossaer (CEO, BOSAQ), moderated by Gonzalo Delacámara, Senior Research Fellow / Head, Water Economics Department at IMDEA Agua.

“Communications is the keyword today! Communications with citizens, with young people to create awareness for the voice of the next generation & human capital development, for the value of water”, said Hasmik in her speech and highlighted the importance of democratic water governance.

The 2021 World water development report titled “Valuing water” assesses the current status and challenges to the valuation of water across different sectors and perspectives and identifies ways in which valuation can be promoted as a tool to help achieve sustainability.
