The influence of European institutions and EU policies on water, environment and development being at the heart of our priorities, we mobilized for this occasion a dozen young people from all over Europe and had the pleasure to organize a workshop “Water Connects – Overcoming conflicts by cooperation”!
Workshop Water Connects – overcoming conflict by cooperation
This workshop was an opportunity for participants to strengthen their understanding of water and its transboundary management, while gaining insight into the dilemmas faced by states.
In the form of a simulation, this session allowed participants to put themselves in the shoes of decision-makers from different watersheds who must make decisions about water use. The young people were confronted with difficult choices: to cooperate with their neighbors or to opt for a more threatening position to guarantee access to the resource regardless of the environmental and diplomatic cost?

Takeaway messages from the participants
Giving young people the tools and knowledge to form opinions is at the heart of our commitment and it is with this in mind that we supported the participation of Youth for Water at EYE2021 mobilizing members of the Youth Parliaments for Water, the Water Youth Network and members of the Youth for the Rhine initiative.
Here are some of the takeaway messages:
- Express your views, make connections! Participation in events like EYE is a great opportunity to strengthen your network.
- Stay curious and continue to expand your knowledge!
- Define your next action in an intergenerational exchange approach by connecting with experts.
